IPTV prices are easy to make look small. A plan advertised as “from a few dollars a month” may be a single payment for a year, and a multi-screen plan can look cheap per screen even if you only ever watch on one. This guide uses Kopen TV’s actual plans as worked examples, but the method works for any provider.
1. Start with the total
Total due = the price for that term and connection count
The total is the only number you actually pay. Every Kopen TV plan is a single payment in USD for its whole term, so $80 for 12 months with 1 connection means $80 at checkout, not a monthly charge. If a provider leads with a monthly figure, find the total before comparing anything else.
2. Work out the effective monthly cost
Effective monthly cost = total ÷ months covered
This puts different terms on the same footing. For Kopen TV with 1 connection:
| Term | Total (USD) | Calculation | Effective monthly |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 month | $20 | $20 ÷ 1 | $20.00 |
| 3 months | $40 | $40 ÷ 3 | $13.33 |
| 6 months | $60 | $60 ÷ 6 | $10.00 |
| 12 months | $80 | $80 ÷ 12 | $6.67 |
| 24 months | $140 | $140 ÷ 24 | $5.83 |
The monthly figure falls as the term gets longer, but the amount you hand over today rises. Both numbers matter; the monthly vs 12-month guide covers how to weigh them.
3. Compare cost per connection — carefully
Cost per connection per month = total ÷ months ÷ connections
Useful when comparing plans with different numbers of simultaneous streams. Kopen TV’s 12-month plans:
| Connections | 12-month total | Per connection per month |
|---|---|---|
| 1 connection | $80 | $6.67 |
| 2 connections | $130 | $5.42 |
| 3 connections | $175 | $4.86 |
| 4 connections | $215 | $4.48 |
| 5 connections | $250 | $4.17 |
The per-connection cost falls as you add connections, but it is only a saving if those screens really play at the same time. If your household rarely has more than one screen on, a 1-connection plan is the cheaper total. Count your busiest evening, not your devices.
4. Compare a prepaid term with paying as you go
Difference = (1-month price × months) − prepaid total
Example with 3 connections: twelve 1-month plans at today’s price would cost $40 × 12 = $480. The 12-month plan is $175, so the difference is $305. Two caveats: it assumes the monthly price stays the same, and it ignores the value of being able to stop after any month. Always compare like with like — the same connection count and the same service.
Compare the features as well as the arithmetic. Kopen TV presents the same core feature scope across the five terms: HD/UHD/4K source options, supported catch-up, EPG where guide data exists and the selected number of active streams. A longer term changes the prepaid commitment, not a promise that every feed is 4K. Read the feature conditions and the purchase-based refund policy.
5. Add the costs outside the plan
- Player app. Some apps are free; others charge for activation or premium features. That fee goes to the app maker.
- Device. If your TV has no suitable player, a streaming stick may be the cheapest fix.
- Internet. Live TV needs a steady connection; an upgrade, if you need one, belongs in the comparison.
- Currency conversion. Kopen TV charges in USD. Cards in other currencies may carry a conversion fee set by your bank.
This guide does not quote a “typical” market price range: ranges found online are rarely like for like on connections, terms or catalogue, so they mislead more than they help.
6. Compare conditions, not only numbers
Two plans with the same total can carry very different risk. Before deciding, write down for each option:
- The refund window and its conditions: for Kopen TV, requests within 7 days from purchase for new subscriptions only, with support first and the full exclusions.
- Whether it renews automatically or you renew by hand.
- Whether a free trial is available and whether it needs a card.
- Who the seller is and how you reach support.
A simple worksheet
Copy this table into a note or spreadsheet and fill one row per option. Worked example: Kopen TV, 6 months, 2 connections.
| Option | Total | ÷ months | ÷ connections | Extra costs | Refund / trial |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kopen TV 6 mo, 2 conn. | $95 | $15.83 | $7.92 | App fee? Card conversion? | See policy; 24-hour trial |
| Option B | |||||
| Option C |
Pricing red flags
- Only a monthly figure is shown, with the total hidden until checkout.
- Countdown timers or “only today” prices with no stated end.
- Crossed-out “original” prices with no explanation of where they came from.
- “Lifetime” plans — a lifetime of what, and whose?
- No named seller or no visible terms and refund policy.
